TO MEMBERS OF THE PARISH
Dear Friends,
I am writing to you today with mixed feelings, to announce that our faithful and exceptionally competent Parish Administrator, Julia Lloyd, has tendered her resignation effective 31 December 2018.
Julia has for a while been grappling with the question of whether or not to retire. She has been instrumental in supporting me in my ministry for the past 5 years. She is very organized, and possesses a broad institutional knowledge that has often helped John and me in our work. Apart from all of those professional qualities (and more), Julia is a kind, loving person. I have often bounced ideas off of her or sought advice from her as a trusted friend, and not just as a colleague. I mention my mixed feelings because, though she will be sorely missed in the office, we as a parish need to recognise that Julia is ready to enter more fully into the chapter in her life that began with her move to Howick. We need to allow her the space to retire whilst she is fit and healthy enough to enjoy the marvellous surrounds in which she lives.
I will miss Julia immensely, but have demanded that I get tea invites regularly! We will be arranging a farewell for Julia closer to the time of her departure so that we, the parish, can express our thanks to her for her many years of service to us.
In the meantime, we are advertising the position of Parish Administrator now so that we can make an appointment and have a handover/training period. We are looking for somebody with administrative experience, computer skills along with basic office management skills. Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher are programmes that we use currently. Also, though this is not bookkeeping position, some working knowledge of Pastel would be advantageous. In addition, it is very important that our appointee be familiar with Anglican values, structures and church culture (preferably an Ascension worshiper), as well as be good natured and able to patiently engage well with the public and parishioners in the front office. In the meantime, please pray for Julia as she prepares to make this important life change. In addition, please pray that God would give us discernment in filling this important position.
