And so, after an amazing six weeks, the Lent Course has drawn to a close. What was conceived in MediClinic in late January, while we both discussed together and sought God’s will, reached its climax yesterday evening when Paul gave his moving testimony in the church, followed by a wonderfully warm and festive Fellowship Supper. Paul’s testimony affirmed, in a very personal way, that God does indeed hear our prayers and that God DOES answer, though not always in the way we might expect or would even like. We were reminded, all over again that, in our relationship with God, it’s not about us, but all about God’s will being done. Thank you to all the presenters over these past six weeks. And thank you also to those who contributed so generously towards last night’s supper. No-one went hungry and the buzz of animated, happy conversation in the packed hall was a living example of the family of God in relationship with one another and with God through Jesus, our Lord.
A reminder that this traditional (but very necessary!) activity takes place in the church on Saturday morning from 09:00 until about 11:00. Tea and hot cross buns will be provided, but we do ask you please to bring things like cleaning cloths, dusters and so on. Wood and metal polish will be available, but we need hands to make light work. Come along and enjoy more of the fellowship that has characterised the Ascension family recently.
Today: 18:00. The Institution of the Lord’s Supper, the Washing of Feet and Stripping of the Altar. Presiding: John & Paul. Preaching: Paul
Tomorrow: 12:00. The most solemn and holy of services – the Good Friday observance of our Lord’s death. A reflection on Jesus’ last seven words from the cross. To be led by Peter Houston of Kloof and John. The service should last a little more than two hours.
Sunday: 05:30. The dawn Resurrection service including lighting of the new fire and Easter candle, with renewal of baptismal vows.
09:00. Family Easter Eucharist with renewal of baptismal vows.
Activities for children will be provided at both services.
And so we wish all our Ascension family a joyful Resurrection and victory in our Risen Lord. Please note that the Parish Office will be closed on both Monday and Tuesday next week. Apart from the rest that your priests will be taking, our office ladies, Julia and Heather, and our verger, Mdu, need a breather too.
Grace & peace
Paul & John
